MAKING IT HAPPEN: Request for Presenters
HUNTSVILLE, Al. - More and more, it's unusual to find a couple who have been married for 42 years, much less work together that long. "It's not hard," Malcolm Tarkington said. "She just does what I tell her." "Yeah, right," Betsy Tarkington said. "No, that's not true." Malcolm and Betsy Tarkington, married for 51 years, have worked side by side at Southerland's Photo since 1968. Malcolm bought the store from Dave Southerland when it was at Dunnavant's Mall, Southerland's home from 1966-75. Betsy did clerical work and waited on customers after Malcolm became the owner in January 1968. HUNTSVILLE, AL. - Prometheus in classic Greek mythology was a Titan who famously stole fire from the almighty and powerful god of thunder, Zeus, to share and give to humankind.
For that benevolent act, Prometheus was chastised by Zeus and chained to a rock where he painfully awaited each day for an eagle to eat his liver.
Excluding the morbid act, John "Jahni" Moore - an art teacher at Butler High School - applies Prometheus' myth to his ideology of the arts.
"Most everyday people never step foot in a museum," said Moore, an Alabama A&M University alumnus, "so I want to take art out of the museums and galleries." "I want to put art in front of everyday people and share it with them like Prometheus."

Painter, P. Richard Stacey
I have been Interested in and have worked with several different forms of art for most of my adult life from metal and wood sculptures to paintings. Since 2007 I have been able to devote much more time to my painting and I have really grown to enjoy being able to create using mainly bright lively acrylic colors on wood and canvas.

Artist’s Statement
Holly Morningstar
My art, no matter the medium, is at its core a self-portrait. The figures are in no way an accurate visual representation of me, but I am not interested in recreating things of this world that already have flesh. Instead, I bring my emotions or thoughts into the world by giving bones and breath, molding them from dusty daydreams or persistent nightmares. I decorate them with familiar images from mythology and pop culture that reinforce my initial intention for the sake of effective communication with my future self and potential audience. I enjoy defining abstractions of my heart with concrete imagery because it makes me feel like I am rescuing them from the abyss of mundane life where they will get lost in between my next Diet Pepsi, shower, and phone call.
I create art for the same reason many scrapbook, or take pictures. I never want to forget. I don’t want to forget what it means to be human, feel, and live. Art is essentially a means of self-expression for me, a way to reduce stress, and release love when I become overwhelmed. When I look at things I have created in the past, I can remember what I was feeling, what caused the emotion, the thought processes, etc. Each drawing or painting is an intricate part of me.
While they are personal, I try to make them universal enough that any given viewer can walk away with their version of the core emotion, leaving both of us feeling slightly comforted that someone else feels something similar.
